Who We Are

The Arc of Hanover is advocating for, educating and empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, fostering community where everyone belongs and thrives.

Since 1974, The Arc of Hanover has been serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. A grassroots non-profit organization started by families and concerned citizens, The Arc of Hanover has grown and changed through the years to meet the needs of individuals and their families through changing times. We are now one of more than 600 Arc chapters operating nationally.
The Arc of Hanover provides direct services to Hanover County residents and assists many in the neighboring localities with information and referral. We promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of community life and educate officials and the public about disabilities and what individuals need to have "a life like yours." Managed by a working volunteer board, The Arc of Hanover relies entirely on donors, fundraising events, and private grants, and receives no government funding. We also operate the Arc of Hanover Thrift Store, proceeds from which support our operations and programming. In 2025, we merged with Raise Coffee, which supplies and supports school-based coffee cart businesses and community engagement through volunteer service.
