We have amazing opportunities

So many roles and so many great people! It's no wonder our volunteers say one of the best parts of volunteering is the community. Come in when we're open to get the tour, complete our online Volunteer Application Form, and you'll soon be ready to sign up for the Thrift Store opportunity that fits best for you. We'd love to have you!

  • Intake - Saturday volunteers at the Warehouse help people donating items by unloading vehicles and moving items into the sorting area.

​​

  • Sorting - We need help to sort the donations we receive before they are priced. (Monday-Saturday hours available) 

​​

  • Pricing - Do you like to research items on the computer? We need volunteers to help assign prices to unusual or vintage items. (Monday-Saturday hours available)

​​

  • Staging - Dress our for-sale items in the most pleasing, logical or seasonal arrangements. Bring your creativity! (Monday-Saturday hours available)

​​

  • Cleaning - Such a big space with so much traffic and so much to keep looking good. We need dusters, trash collectors, floor sweepers and bathroom polishers. It's one of the top customer service needs. (Monday-Saturday hours available)

  • Working the Register - One of our specialty roles, but we will train you! Help us keep our check-out lines moving smoothly and customers happy. (Thursday, Friday or Saturday only)

 

  • Relationship opportunities with our volunteers who have intellectual or developmental disabilities - We love our self-advocate volunteers. Sometimes, a community volunteer coming alongside is what makes it possible for an individual to find purpose and to have a great time doing something that is valued. We offer training here, too. Please consider: It's our MISSION. (Monday-Saturday hours available)

Come Join Us!

Step 1: Complete our Volunteer Application Form, through Google Forms. You will hear from our Thrift Store Manager, Kim Thompson, about next steps (including a background check, which is standard practice for the organization).

Step 2: When your application has been approved, stop by the Thrift Store (when we're open -- Thursday, Friday, Saturday, between 10 AM and 5 PM) and go on the tour.

Step 3: Decide in which area of Thrift Store operations you'd like to try volunteering first. We use Bloomerang as our volunteer management platform, and you will access opportunities through your account which you can make by clicking the link below. (You will receive training on how to access opportunities you want to accept, but make your account now to have that done!)

What are the store hours?
​Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM - 5 PM

Do you accept donations?
​Yes, we accept donations on Saturdays at the warehouse from 10 AM to 4 PM (warehouse closing time).

What items do you accept?
​We accept most items except large exercise equipment (treadmills, etc.), large appliances (washers/dryers, etc.), mattresses and box springs, pianos, and undergarments.​
​
Do you pick up donations?
​​We do pick up donations and pre-arranged post-estate sales. Email Thrift Store Manager Kim Thompson (kimberly.thompson@thearcofhanover.org) to arrange for a date on our calendar.
