A primary reason The Arc of Hanover exists is to offer self-advocates, family members, caregivers and others with disability-related concerns the best solutions to address their needs in the most expedient way and, if at all possible, here in Hanover County. We seek to be the first point of contact to help direct toward resources available in the County or as close as possible to the individual's community.
Navigating the myriad disability resources is sometimes overwhelming, and we will use for your benefit our knowledge and experience to offer a way through the overwhelm.
Please reach out to our Co-Executive Director-Mission, Diane Gallegos, for a phone call or in-person meeting.

LOCAL FOOD RESOURCES from
THE HANOVER CHURCHES NETWORK
In the Fall of 2025, the Federal Government experienced a shut down, which temporarily ended the distribution of funding for SNAP -- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, upon which many low-income families, including people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, depend to pay for food. In Virginia, Governor Glenn Youngkin declared a State of Emergency and launched a new program to cover funds in place of SNAP. The Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) provided funding to SNAP recipients temporarily until SNAP funding resumed with the re-opening of the Federal Government.
The Arc of Hanover stood by -- and will again -- to assist disability self-advocates and their families who receive SNAP benefits in case of a lack of funding with the Emergency SNAP Replacement Funding Program.
If you or someone you know continues to have needs, we are providing this resource of local food organizations, prepared by The Hanover Churches Network, of which The Arc of Hanover is a part. If you still have needs unmet through these resources, please contact Diane Gallegos at The Arc of Hanover.

Hanover Community Collaborative
In Fall of 2024, The Arc of Hanover launched an initiative to reach out to the various disability-related agencies, associations, and organizations based in Hanover County or serving Hanover County residents. We are proud to serve alongside these community partners in meeting the resource needs of our community.
You can find some of the currently scheduled events and programs from these organizations on our Collaborative calendar under the Events tab.
